How I Pray

What do I pray for?

Myself,

My basic needs

But not always asking

Mostly thanking for the little things

I may not have much

Some days it begins 

with the air I breathe

Work ahead,

Food to fill my basic needs


Who do I pray for?

My children

Those who walk close beside

That maybe he’ll open the door

For someone special in my life.

For those who are struggling

With addiction

With fear, with grief 

My family,

Those I encounter

My brother.

My enemy.


I pray when I’m lonely

When I feel I’ve let him down

I prayed under the stars

Last night 

Taking in all that surrounds 


I don’t have much

To offer anyone 

I am complex

Yet such a simple man

I pray for God to show me

A little more of his plan

Maybe let me understand


This is how I pray.

“God, show me more

and let me follow

Your commands.

You are gentle

And you know the heart

Of this man.”

Wonder if her heart‘s  still in Mississippi? Whispering Pines go back in time Wonder if she’s missing?
