Prayer - O Wake
O wake, my soul
and linger
In the moments
as the dawn
Gives way to the bustle
I try to hold back a yawn
My spirit
sits in silence
As my body starts to move
I often forget that all I am
is from you
So as the skies
turn clearest blue
and coffee steams my cup
I listen, I can hear a bird
Announcing to its babies
“time to get up”
And I need that same revelation
As old bones creak
with that first stretch
Realizing all I need
is found
In the depth of my heart
where I am fed
Not by worldly sustenance
Or the worms,
like my friend the bird
But through the living presence
of the creator of this world
So I shed my hesitations
I cough, clearing my lungs
Pray to a God I believe in
as this day has begun…

“Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.”
Psalms 105:4 NIV
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.”
Psalms 19:1-4 NIV
