Prayer for Peace

In this world

Where lightning strikes

and cold winds blow

Hunger pangs

and heavy loads

Trouble comes

and our hearts lose hope

There still is hope

Deep down we know

When fear steals

our last shred of peace

Darkening thoughts

and leading us

Toward the dangers of

that precipice

We want to fall

That’s being human, after all

But deep inside

There is a glimmer,

a small light

That burns like embers

Longing to be stirred

The fire just waiting

to be given breath

From those simple words

“I need help”

Inside

the fire ignites

Warming those places

that we hide

Wanting to bring life

To weary souls

Those of us who fight

the bitter cold

That tries to bring

us to our knees

All we have to do

Is ask

“Please…

I just need

Your Peace.”

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
