Tender War
Cold wind blows
over even colder souls
The night finally relents
This is how it’s been
for so long
The world keeps howling
Mocking our beliefs
Telling us we aren’t enough
Laughing at our defeats
And when the temperatures drop
Inside our weary hearts
That is where You are
That is where it starts
The battle isn’t waged
on fields of glory
Where life is lost
This battle wages deep inside
The tender folds
of each person’s heart
And the one who gave
Gives it all again
To hold us, when we’re shivering
As we finally relent
And let go
Lay this burden down
There’s nothing more
to fight for
Once we’ve truly found
The light which guides,
The strength beyond our bones
It comes from surrender
This victory is found
in being known
As we get up
From knees that have
prayed that desperate prayer
We become aware
of the truth
that brought us here
And breathe
This is what we need
To truly believe.
