Peace
Don’t always know it
Often times don’t understand
How something so quiet
Can slip so quickly through my hands
You say be still, Lord
I never really tried
Until in the darkness
I was desperate and I cried
Still find it elusive
Wonder some days
if it will ever come
Yet in the whispering wind
I feel a touch
of what you’ve begun
Inside my chest
When I find rest
I know it comes
From nowhere else
Peace isn’t a potion
Or some passing fantasy
It rests in the midst of trouble
Helping us to see
That even when the struggle
rises up ahead
You open your arms
And say
“Pick me instead
I will steady the ship
I will calm the storm
I will shelter your spirit
When you’re weary and worn
I am here
All you have to do
Is call out my name
I have loved you
From the very first day
I remain”
Breath starts to flow
Shedding tears
Letting go
Peace
Comes
In the midst
Of the storm.
