Open Eyes to Heaven

I fight 

What’s within me 

That pulls me to the dirt

The lies and past reminders

Those puss filled sores and hurts


Opening my eyes to heaven

Though I still don’t understand 

How the maker of the universe 

Would take notice of this small man


And yet I pray 

Streaming tears

Lord, take away these fears

That rise like a volcano

Ready to spew out all my hope

Storms that remind me

I am never enough


Oh, are you near 

I beg you

Please hear 


my prayer.
