The splendor that was Rome
Amidst the splendor that was Rome
With its shiny cathedrals made of stone
The crest of civilization at the time
Where the glory of man could shine
Under the gaze of the Pharisees
Those so religious, making a spectacle of
just bending to their knees
As they took the scriptures and made a point
Of drawing a line between those not worthy,
those who they would anoint
Isn’t it perfect
This being the place
Where a savior comes in the midst
of the grandeur and brings grace
A teacher who taught those in law how to be free
A savior who came and shed his blood
to make a reprieve
So me,
someone who dwells
between religion and faith
Can just let it go
And find my way
As I look up and I look around
The grandeur of Rome
The history of Israel
Still resounds
Yet what matters more to me
Is how a common man, a carpenter, a teacher - my God
would die for me
